BOO!
Knock Knock
Not a good shot, but it’s rare for me to get any kind of photo of this Nuttall’s Woodpecker. He’s very shy and keeps to the foliage. I hear him tapping sometimes in the mornings, but don’t always see him.
The Last One
I may be wrong, but this could be the last mantis photo of the year. This female was looking for a place to lay her eggs under the rafters. The day after I took this photo I found an egg case up there. You know what that means? More praying mantis photos next year. 😉
Moving Day
I thought it was rare to see one of these this late in October, then I logged in to my 365 account tonight and everyone is posting ladybug pictures! 🙂 I guess the little beetles are on the move, looking for a warm place to hibernate.

Doggie Diner
The Doggie Diner was a bay area chain of restaurants when I was a kid – I think the last one closed in the 80s. The doggie head could be seen on a pole above the restaurant, and there is still one doggie head in San Francisco that was granted landmark status. The other heads are scattered far and wide. I spotted this doggie in Amador County wine country sitting outside a tasting room. So surreal.
