This bee was in trouble; trying to fly, but couldn’t. Kept grooming itself like it was trying to clean something off. This isn’t the first time I’ve found a bee in this state. I don’t use poison in my garden, but I can’t control what happens beyond my property. It could be the effects of poison, parasites, or something else entirely. Sad to see.

Yes, the photo could be better, but it is what it is. I wanted to show how small the praying mantises (mantids?) in my garden currently are. This is a recently shed exoskeleton from a mantis that is probably about a month old at this point next to a US dime for size comparison.

So.. I’m playing catch up a bit since I fell behind this month. I took photos daily, just didn’t upload them – mostly because of time issues and honestly they weren’t all that exciting.
Anyway, this is my first attempt at star bokeh. The results were not fantastic, but it was fun to do and I learned a bit, so I’ll have to try it again soon.

I’ve fallen behind a bit… I’m still taking photos every day, just not getting them uploaded. Hopefully I’ll catch up soon. In other news, it was hot today!
This little mantis has been living on my strawberry plants for a couple of weeks. I found his exoskeleton yesterday hanging from the underside of a leaf, so its good to know he’s doing well enough there to have grown too big for his “skin”. I had to move the strawberry pot to the other side of the patio today, so I hope he continues to thrive in the new location.
