I took the trail less traveled and discovered where all the bucks were hiding out.

Boys
I spotted these two on a sandbar in the middle of the river this morning excitedly picking up objects and stuffing them into a sack. When I zoomed in to see what they were up to I saw they were collecting salmon carcasses. The salmon swim upstream every year to spawn and many die along the way. If you have never experienced the aroma of rotting fish corpses, let me tell you, it’s a malodorous stench. You can smell the dead salmon long before you even get to the riverbank. I would love to see what happened when these kiddos arrived home with their putrid bag of dead fish! 😀

Drive By Photography
I took this photo on the way home from the office tonight. This section of the American River is like a big reflective mirror, but the road I take is a highway with no place to stop, so I just have to hold my cellphone up and see what I can get. This spot looks especially lovely at night when there is moonlight.
Fly Fishing
I saw lots of raptors this evening while I was out walking, but only one osprey. I don’t usually see them on “my” part of the river, so even though the quality of this photo isn’t superb, it moved right up to the top of my photo of the day list. I didn’t see him catch a fish, but he did dive after them a couple of times. Hopefully he eventually caught something for dinner tonight.
