Kitchen tip #587: A mandolin slicer makes life so much easier.
Before posting I had to decide between the original photo with vivid red onion slices, and this desaturated version. I do love color, but I also like how line and shape becomes the primary focus in this version.
My uncle sent a HUGE box of peaches over fresh from his tree. I wish I could attach the aroma to this image – they smell so good. They’re all quite ripe, so I spent some time this afternoon blanching the skins off most of them and popping them into the freezer for future peachy projects.

Kumquat marmalade.
My sister gave me a huge bowl of kumquats from her tree, so I decided to make marmalade with them. It was certainly a colorful activity!
I finally got around to bottling the pear vodka I started making last fall. Pretty bottles to give to friends, but I’m keeping that mason jar for myself.

So, today is national Margarita Day here in the U.S., who knew? This margarita contains jalapenos and cilantro in addition to the standard lime and tequila, which gives it a bit more kick. The green army man is optional.
Well, in my defense it does have oatmeal in it.
