I noticed this hawk (I think it’s a Red-shouldered Hawk) sitting quietly in a tree during a late afternoon walk. They will typically fly away when humans come near, so this was a rare photo op for me as this bird didn’t seem to be bothered by my presence and stayed on its perch while I took a few pictures.
This guy stopped by for a quick drink while I was out working in the yard today.
Just a little flycatcher in the rye…tree.
The sparrow showed up again today. He did a few noisy fly-bys as I was out working in the yard, then finally came in for a landing. I was able to get fairly close to him this time, but it was still difficult to get a decent photo since his head never stops moving.
An infrequent visitor to the feeder, and I have yet to get a decent photo of him, but I’ll keep trying!
I was happy to see that the robins are still around. A pair was perched in the mulberry trees in my yard for a brief time so I was able to get some better photos.
Today I took dozens of photos of uncooperative robins doing all sorts of interesting things just out of range of my lens, or behind dense foliage. I did get a couple of relatively clear shots, but wasn’t completely happy with them. Meanwhile, this dove was sitting up on the wire the whole time watching my attempts. Maybe he’s not as glamorous as a robin, but he does know how to sit still for a photo.
Acorn woodpeckers were out in full force today taking advantage of the lovely weather to rearrange the stash in their granary trees.
I’ve taken much better shots of hummingbirds in the past, so I wasn’t planning to use this one as my picture of the day; however there are some things about it that I like.
When all else fails there’s always a scrub jay around to photograph. Just add peanuts, and they will come.
