I finally got around to bottling the pear vodka I started making last fall. Pretty bottles to give to friends, but I’m keeping that mason jar for myself.

Micro Mantis
Praying mantises have been hatching in the garden this week and I keep finding these tiny little “aliens” all over the place. Right now, they’re about the size of an ant, but I’m sure better photos will happen as they get bigger! 🙂
My Favorite Squirrel
How can I tell them apart? I just can. She is rather tame and will take a peanut out of my hand if I let her, but I don’t encourage that anymore. She may be sweet, but she has razor sharp claws and can be a little.. well, “squirrely” at times.
Hello Sun
Ugh… I’m way behind on uploading photos. I caught sight of the sun through a translucent skylight (and cedar tree) the other day and liked the way it looked.

I had no idea this little grasshopper-thing (edit: katydid) was so colorful until I took a closeup look at him. This doesn’t mean that I’m not annoyed by all the leaf chewing.

Dragonfly
I couldn’t get a clear shot from the opposite side of the dragonfly, which is unfortunate because the sun shining through its wings made them appear as if they were spun out of golden thread. I caught myself thinking that the dragonfly looked very much like a piece of art nouveau jewelry that had been placed in the tree as I was comparing its wings to Tiffany stained glass, which is funny because this insect was the original inspiration for such works of art.

It’s been one of those days where I just wasn’t satisfied with any of my photos. On bad photo mojo days you are likely to see a cat in this space. Pets are my go-to subject when nothing else is working, or I’m pressed for time. This is Griffin. She’s been here before and will likely show up again.
