Down at the nature center, it’s not unusual to see deer and turkeys hanging out in the same space. I couldn’t see any other deer in the immediate area, but this little fawn appeared to have plenty of feathered friends to keep it company.
I’ve noticed this fawn and her sibling in the same spot the last couple of days. When they lay their heads down, they’re very hard to see. They blend in to their surroundings so well.
The turkeys seem to enjoy scratching around in this particular meadow.
Yesterday as I was pulling some weeds in the garden, a wasp flew into the dill and attacked this little mantis. I intervened and collected the mantis from where it had fallen. It didn’t seem to be moving around normally after that, so I took it inside for the night. Today the mantis is looking quite battered and one of its arms isn’t working. I gave it a fly, which it appears to be interested in catching, but hasn’t managed to do so yet. So, apparently I’m running a praying mantis rehab center now.
My uncle sent a HUGE box of peaches over fresh from his tree. I wish I could attach the aroma to this image – they smell so good. They’re all quite ripe, so I spent some time this afternoon blanching the skins off most of them and popping them into the freezer for future peachy projects.
A little bit of “awww” for you.
I’ve been seeing a lot of these little spotted fawns around this month; however they are always seem to be in the brush, in the shade, or bouncing around like maniacs. This one stood still for a bit before high jumping it out of there. The light’s not great, but I gotta take what I can get.
