I’ve noticed this fawn and her sibling in the same spot the last couple of days. When they lay their heads down, they’re very hard to see. They blend in to their surroundings so well.

Seeing Spots
A little bit of “awww” for you.
I’ve been seeing a lot of these little spotted fawns around this month; however they are always seem to be in the brush, in the shade, or bouncing around like maniacs. This one stood still for a bit before high jumping it out of there. The light’s not great, but I gotta take what I can get.
Red, White & Blue
This is about as patriotic as we got today. Day 7 of 105+ degree temps, so we took it easy and basically lounged around for most of the holiday.
SSSSee Ya
It was hard to choose just one photo to upload today. I snapped some closeups of a beautiful great horned owl (a permanent resident at the nature center), a pair of tiger swallowtail butterflies on the bank of the river (one crawled around on my hand for a bit) and this scaly guy.
I’m normally very careful when hiking around by the river, and today was no different. It was hot out and I knew there could be snakes around, so I was making sure to scan both sides of the path… right up to the point when I became distracted by some turkeys on the other side of the trail – that’s when I heard hissing and rattling right by my foot! I jumped, the snake jumped, we went in opposite directions and fortunately that was the extent of the drama. Phew!
So, since this guy nearly gave me a heart attack, he gets to be the photo of the day. The rest of the photos are at my Flickr account if anyone wants to see owls and butterflies.
Rat Catcher
This isn’t my cat, I don’t know if she belongs to anyone. She often perches on top of my shed and watches for rats over the fence where there is a plot of neglected property.

I found one of the photos I never got around to uploading way back when. I think I’ve just got one more to locate and the gaps in my project will be filled.
My cat, Bones, waiting for me in the laundry room because he wants to go outside. He can’t be trusted out there on his own with the birds, squirrels, etc.
Jasper
I was out of town to visit family Tuesday and didn’t take my camera. Luckily I remembered I had “Instagrammed” a photo of my uncle’s dog that day, so here’s Jasper. He’s wearing a new collar designed by my sister.
Be My Dog
Hey look, it’s not a bug! I’ve been taking some photos of dog collars as a favor to my sister. She makes these in different sizes and patterns and has started selling them (her pitt bull terrier is the QA tester). This project is allowing me some much needed practice with my 50mm lens.
My Favorite Squirrel
How can I tell them apart? I just can. She is rather tame and will take a peanut out of my hand if I let her, but I don’t encourage that anymore. She may be sweet, but she has razor sharp claws and can be a little.. well, “squirrely” at times.
