It’s been one of those days where I just wasn’t satisfied with any of my photos. On bad photo mojo days you are likely to see a cat in this space. Pets are my go-to subject when nothing else is working, or I’m pressed for time. This is Griffin. She’s been here before and will likely show up again.

Hard to believe this little creature may become a beautiful butterfly if all goes well.
Actually I think the small one is her offspring. The squirrels normally do not share feeder space with each other, but the adult female lets the little one eat with her – for now. I shot this through the window because the baby squirrel is skittish and will take off if I go out into the yard..

This rose bush has been blooming like crazy since last week. Maybe all the banana peels I’ve been burying out in the garden have made a difference. I had a macro adapter on the lens when I shot this, and I also used a lomo filter in Photoshop.
Last month I posted a photo of a harlequin beetle in my garden. Since then, several of those beetles have moved in, so I let them have a broccoli rabe plant in order to keep them out of the rest of the garden. A few days ago I noticed eggs on the plant… quite a bunch actually. I suppose I’ll have to destroy these since I don’t want the garden overrun by stink beetles, but they are so very interesting looking. They’re also quite tiny; I’ve placed them on a US penny here for size reference.

Pens from the dollar store, which I purchased even though I suspected that they probably wouldn’t work very well (which they don’t), but mainly because I liked the way they looked when I held them up to the light.
